Become part of a luminous holiday soundscape played by the audience on boomboxes carried through downtown Breckenridge. Tote a portable music player, including boombox, tape deck, Bluetooth speaker or smartphone, to amplify one of four tracks while strolling through a designated route downtown with a surprise stop and possible Santa sightings.
Gather in the Blue River Plaza between 4:30–5:00 pm for instructions. Immediately following the lighting of the holiday tree at 5:00 pm, the audience will push play in unison and walk the route together. Don’t have an old portable music device? A limited number of vintage boomboxes and phone speakers will be available on Saturday, December 2 from 3:00–5:00 pm in the Blue River Plaza on a first-come, first-served basis. To receive one of the four tracks, download the Unsilent Night app on your smartphone, download one of the sound files HERE, or visit Old Masonic Hall on December 1 and 2 to pick up a cassette or CD.
“Caroling has never been so epic.” –Flavorpill
Unsilent Night is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music in the form of a cassette, CD, or Mp3. Together all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. The fact that the participants play different “parts” simultaneously helps create the special sound of the piece. Since 1992, Unsilent Night has been presented in 101 cities and four continents, drawing thousands of participants in cities like New York and San Francisco.
